CHICAGO - Loyola University Chicago freshman Jamie O'Brien has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness after her performance in Loyola's three-game series against Evansville over the weekend. The freshman hit .300 over the three-game series, compiling a .700 slugging percentage and adding three runs and five RBI.
O'Brien led Loyola in its 16-5 run-rule victory over Evansville on Saturday, batting two-for-four and knocking in three runs. The Naperville, Ill., native hit an RBI single in the second inning before knocking in two more runs with an inside-the-park home run in the third. She continued to be a force at the plate Sunday, hitting a two-run double in Loyola's second run-rule victory of the series.
O'Brien is the third Rambler to be honored by College Sports Madness this season. Hannah Jenkins garnered the award after Loyola's season-opening tournament, the Total Control Sports Invitational, while Brooke Wyderski earned a pair of awards after her performance at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
